Application Guides

Points to watch when applying exterior paint

In exterior work the two factors that determine the result are the weather conditions and the condition of the surface.

Weather conditions

In exterior work the weather has a direct effect on how the product behaves on the surface. Application should not be carried out when rain is expected or when there is a risk of frost, intense direct sunlight or strong wind. These conditions affect both the drying behaviour and the final appearance of the surface.

Surface condition

  • If the facade shows blistering, flaking or cracks, repair them first.
  • If mould or algae has formed, clean it off and dry the surface.
  • Clean off mould oil, dust and dirt residues.
  • Apply a primer on highly absorbent and chalking surfaces.
  • Check the details that shed water (sills, eaves, gutters).

Application

  • Use the same production batch on the same facade.
  • Work the facade in sections defined by natural breaks (columns, joints, corners).
  • Apply the paint at an even thickness with regular passes.
  • Apply the second coat once the first coat has dried.
  • Complete the scaffolding and safety measures before starting work.

Conclusion

A properly prepared facade directly improves the performance of the product applied to it. For product specific waiting times and coverage information, refer to the details on the product packaging and to the technical data sheet.
